Welcome to our 2008-2009 Season and an exhilarating new beginning!
A new professional acting company joins the University of Delaware’s Professional Theatre Training Program (PTTP) this fall, inaugurating a bold new dimension to our nationally acclaimed graduate conservatory. In conjunction with the incoming PTTP graduate class, we introduce the Resident Ensemble Players (REP), a resident professional acting company consisting of some of America’s most experienced and respected stage actors.
The Professional Theatre Training Program/Resident Ensemble Players is a powerful and unique marriage of a conservatory training program and a resident professional acting company. Operating like two sides of a single coin, the PTTP and the REP are each distinctive aspects of one artistic mission that manifests itself in a theatre organization that is greater than the sum of its parts.
With the establishment of the REP, the University of Delaware joins the many universities that have resident professional theatre companies, including Yale, Harvard, and Brown universities.
The Resident Ensemble Players is composed of a core group of 10 professional actors, including two PTTP faculty members and one professional Actors Equity Association stage manager.
During the first three semesters of the MFA training cycle, the Resident Ensemble Players will perform in the University of Delaware’s Roselle Center for the Arts, as well as play minor and supporting roles in the MFA students’ productions in the intimate Hartshorn Theatre, allowing the REP actors to provide both mentoring and support to the MFA actors in this important early phase of their training. The REP actors will also be teaching a number of undergraduate classes, greatly increasing our offerings to the undergraduate community.
Beginning in the fourth semester of the MFA training in February 2010, the MFA actors join the Resident Ensemble Players and all productions from that point will be cast with a mix of MFA and professional actors, with performances in both the Roselle Center for the Arts and in Hartshorn Theatre.
One of the most exciting elements of this unique alliance of a resident professional acting company and a conservatory training program is that it allows us to offer frequent productions of the world’s best plays to the University and the tri-state area – great theatre right in our own community.
With the price of travel continuing to increase, you can find quality, extraordinarily affordable, and engaging entertainment just right down the road.
Please join us in us in the inauguration of this exciting new future.
We’ll see you at the theatre!
